Day 3 action at Southport

Competitors in the Hansa Class Asia Pacific Championships had another fine day on the water.

Light breezes outside the yacht club saw the sailors move down the Broadwater into ‘the big hole’ where all fleets completed another two races.

Liberties were first up in the morning division, with mixed results for the sailors. Yuen Wai Foo continues to top the leaderboard, with a first and third in the two races. Australia’s Peter Coleman took the win in the second race to move into second place. New Zealand’s John Buchanan and Charlie Weatherly are tied on 15 points in third place. Stronger winds and tides caused some competitors not to take part in todays racing, and some close rounding of the marks led to some penalty turns for some of the fleet.

In the 303 doubles, Tasmania’s Chris Symonds and Manuela Klinger maintain their perfect record with another 2 wins on Day 3. Lachlan Clear and Ron Garner moved up the leaderboard with an impressive second place in race 2 to put them third overall.

The afternoon racing saw the 303 singles and SKUD18s take to the water with close racing from the 6 boat fleet. SKUD18 Skippers Neil Rowsthorn and Brent Geritz shared the wins today to remain locked on 7 points each, from Paul Bird on 16 points.

The 303 singles fleet saw Japan’s Niwa Takumi retain the lead despite Australia’s Bruce James and Chris Ruston sharing the wins on day three to remain in second and third place respectively.
